When there
are weddings, there are wedding anniversaries. So, as we move into wedding 'high season', they will be plenty of young men out there agonizing over what anniversary present to get the
wife.
Husbands of the recently-wed have it worse. In the early years there are often great expectations from that siginificant other. But, this anniversary thing is still very new to him. With that in mind, we compiled this cheat sheet for the first five wedding anniversaries...
First Wedding Anniversary
- Traditionally paper
- Ideas: an album or scrapbook pre-filled with photos or keepsakes from your first year together; framed wedding vows or a poem about her
The Anniversary Book is ideal. It is predominantly paper (as it should be) and it stays with you for all your anniversaries, recording your years together. So, it's very romantic, but absolutely must be given on the first anniversary to be complete.
Second Wedding Anniversary
- Traditionally cotton
- Ideas: cotton lingerie is an obvious choice for a husband to give his wife. Household cotton items like bedding and napkins best avoided!
Canvas is made of cotton and this stunning (and flattering!) personalised piece of art is printed on canvas. You send a photograph and our designers will "Warholise" to dramatic effect. This is one cotton gift she won't be expecting, but she'll be chuffed at becoming a work of art!
Third Wedding Anniversary
- Traditionally leather
- Ideas: Jewellery to jewellery rolls, shoes to bags, journals to photo albums, purses to i-pod holders or folding photo frames. Fetish wear best avoided.
Instead of opting for a cliched romantic gift, give something she would really enjoy - like a luxury leather handbag! Here's one that's sure to become a trusty (and stylish!) companion.
Fourth Wedding Anniversary
- Traditionally flowers or fruit
- Ideas: Well, obviously, you could just send flowers! More originality might come from selecting a flower shaped, printed or patterned gift.
So much more inspiring and longer lasting than a dozen red roses, this hand-fashioned flower brooch is original and exclusive. It has a timeless, ageless, elegant apepal and is something she can wear now and forever. UK handmade.
Fifth Wedding Anniversary
- Traditionally wood
- Ideas: Planting an ornamental tree, give wooden memory or trinket boxes or wood fragranced gifts like candles or perfume (look out for pine, cedarwood or sandalwood in the ingredients) or even wooden jewellery.
OK, so we cheated. This jewellery is "wood" by name rather than nature! But, we couldn't resist sneaking in a best-seller by UK jewellery designer Claire Wood. And, this UK handmade pendant is a wonderful and fitting statement of togetherness; two hearts inseparable.
