The Why, Where and What of How We Use Cookies...
Note: If you are experiencing problems using your Wish List, Gift Box or shopping basket, this is probably because your cookie settings are not set for use with our site.
What's a cookie?
A cookie is a little list of text information that a website sends to your browser.
The cookie is stored in a special area on your computer's hard disk chosen by your browser.
Many large websites use cookies, because they help us to remember who you are.
Imagine having to enter a username and password every time you added something to your shopping basket?!
Because our cookies tell us who you are, we can fetch your basket or change it without you needing to say "Hey, it's me!" all the time.
How do you use cookies and what information do you collect about me?
We don't collect any information about you using cookies or monitor your browsing habits, or anything sinister like that. Our cookies are only used to make tasks you do at pressies4princesses.co.uk easier – like shopping, or making a Wish List or Gift Box.
Our cookies do not contain personal information (except an email address, if you use the Wish List facility) and are not available to other websites or companies.
We use three different cookies:
- Basket => This cookie enables us to maintain your shopping basket. It is created the first time you add something to your basket. It contains a randomly-generated unique number that tells us who you are every time you do something to your basket. It also stores the number of items in your basket, their value and the name of your Gift Box, if you started one. This cookie is deleted when you check out, or otherwise expires (and, therefore, is removed by your browser) one month after your last visit.
- Gift Box => We use this cookie to keep tabs on your Gift Box – much the same way as with your basket. It carries the name of your Gift Box, when it was started and the date you last used it. This cookie automatically expires 1 month after you last used the Gift Box facility.
- Wish List => This cookie – like the other three – is simply designed to save you identifying yourself all the time. It contains the nickname you gave your list, the time and date you last modified it and your email address. The latter is perfectly safe, since your browser should only let the website that sent the cookie read it. Other sites cannot read our cookies. Again this cookie is set to automatically expire.
I don't want cookies on my machine!
If you don't want a cookie to be created on your PC, web browsers like Microsoft Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator provide the option to disable them. However, you will not be able to make a Wish List, or buy gifts at pressies4princesses.co.uk if you disable cookies.
How to manage the use of cookies on our website
Most browsers are automatically set to accept 1st party cookies from all websites – so most users need do nothing.
1st party cookies are the type that pressies4princesses.co.uk uses. They are sent by our site and can only be read by our site. If your browser isn't set to accept these, we recommend changing this setting for use with pressies4princesses.co.uk. Alternatively, you can set your browser to accept our cookies specifically, whilst still blocking everyone else's!
You can manage the cookies in the cookie folder of your browser. You can either delete cookies from your cookie folder once you have left our site, or you can set your preferences before you enter our website.
Deleting or rejecting cookies may hamper the function of your Wish List or prevent you from making purchases at pressies4princesses.co.uk.
