Anyone who gives a new mum one of those worthy parenting books written by "experts" deserves to be shot, in my opinion. Parenthood is scary enough without having some ex-health visitor ramming down your throat "what's best for baby" in a way that makes it clear that you no longer count for anything. No, parenting books should all be like the Yummy Mummy's Survival Guide -- written by real, new(ish) mothers who have made mistakes but muddled through -- and who've had some fun in the process.
What does it cover?
As you can tell from the name there is plenty of information in this book on beauty tips, where to find the best maternity clothes and how to get your body back into shape. But Yummy Mummy also covers plenty of more essential parenting stuff written in a wry, humorous, we're-all-in-the-same-boat style. The book covers everything from pregnancy through to the early years and includes sections on:
