A young designer, producing interesting work rather than following the herd - that's how the judges perceive Barbara MacLeod's entry. Here's hand-making that shows a real crafts-person at work. She has clearly learned the skills of her trade and is successfully exercising those skills in her own artistic direction, avoiding the usual handmade clichés. She's using completely different references. The buyers (judges) at pressies' see a lot of handmade jewellery, but Barbara's designs are some of precious few that stand apart.
Barbara MacLeod is a jewellery designer/ maker in her first year of business. Her workshop is located in the remote Scottish highlands, where she creates pieces to be exhibited in galleries across the country. She has already received several awards.
Her jewellery is inspired by old decorative arts and she brings these sources into a contemporary setting to produce particularly feminine and highly wearable pieces of jewellery. For this reason her work is bought by men and women as gifts for women spanning all ages.
